Position: Youth Heritage Steward (Green Team)
Location: Grosse Isle Heritage Site in Grosse Isle, Manitoba
Duration: (Seasonal) May to September 2024
Hours of Work: Weekends (Sat, Sun) with Flexible Weekdays (Wed to Fri)
Pay Rate: $15.30/hour
About the Project: The “Grosse Isle Steams Ahead” Green Team is an exciting initiative to enhance the visitor experience and the historical education offerings at Grosse Isle. This project seeks motivated individuals passionate about history, environmental conservation, and community development.
Job Responsibilities
- Historical Preservation: Participate in restoring and painting heritage buildings to preserve their historical integrity.
- Environmental Stewardship: Engage in landscaping activities, including planting native flora to beautify the site and promote local biodiversity. Assist in expanding the playground area and maintaining walking trails.
- Education and Outreach: Facilitate educational programs to deepen visitors’ connections with the site’s historical context.
- Community Engagement and Tour Facilitation: Conduct guided tours and answer visitor questions.
Requirements
- Must be 15 to 29 years old (as outlined by our funder)
- Strong interest in history, education, or environmental science
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Physical fitness to perform outdoor and restoration activities
Training & Development
- Comprehensive training in safety protocols, customer engagement, and historical restoration
- Opportunities to develop leadership skills through project planning and peer coordination
